Delta Air Lines Considering Kerbside Check In Charge

In an effort to cut operating costs at Delta Air Lines it has been suggested that kerbside baggage check in may have to incur a charge, with USD2 being the expected rate per bag.

Most other carriers already charge a fee for kerbside baggage check in so Delta would only be keeping up with everyone else by applying the charge, although no decision has been made yet. The carrier has stated though that charges will not be applied to check ins inside the airport.

The view of industry observers is that Delta will implement the charge, which will help their bottom line, and as it is an industry standard anyway there will be no consumer backlash. UK travellers may well experience the kerbside check in on their flights to Atlanta, or at least the return flights back to the UK.
