Northwest Airlines has reported a loss for the second quarter of USD377 million, due primarily to a charge on the balance sheet.
Without the charge Northwest Airlines would have seen a net income of USD170 million; still less than the USD205 million earned last year but much better than the actual figure posted. In order to remain competitive the airline has previously announced plans to cut jobs and reduce capacity – actions that will help them counter the rising costs they are facing.
The airline is a popular choice for UK based travellers taking flights to Boston and other parts of the USA and they should feel confident that these flights will not be curtailed by Northwest Airlines since they are busy and profitable.
