Flights and Noise
Published: 29/05/07
For residents living near airports the noise created by air traffic is a serious issue and one that BAA, owner of seven of the UK airports, including the main London ones of Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted, are keen to work on.
They have just launched information websites for each airport providing details, advice and information on the noise created, with some pretty clever details included that should really help community relations prosper.
The most obvious visual aspect of the new websites is something called Webtrack, which shows the actual route each aircraft takes, including the height of the plane. This is such a clear representation of what is happening that it is expected to be a very busy site for some time. People can now see, quickly and easily, just where the aeroplanes are, and at the same time, compare that information with their actual experience as the plane flies overhead.
Residents near London Heathrow Airport for example, the busiest international airport in the world, can now see just where British Airways flights to New York go as they leave the airport and also see how the airport is trying to make life better for everyone by managing routes as effectively as possible.
