There are more bars in Rio than you could ever hope to drink in, from small beach kiosks where you can get a beer throughout the day, right through to glitzy nightclubs, where you will find Rio's beautiful people enjoying a cocktail or two.
Clubs only tend to get going after about 11pm, and there are no hard and fast rules about licensing hours, although usually, you will pick up a card on the door, have it stamped for any drinks, and then pay on exit. Try not to lose the card, as if you do you will normally get charged around R$300 (the equivalent of around 60 beers!)
Some of the best-known clubs are in the Copacabana area of the city, and one of the most highly recommended is Bunker 94.
