The Shiloh Country Park is around 100 miles east of Memphis, and one of the most historic sites from the American Civil War. With plenty of monuments to see, and a museum that describes the bloody battles that were fought there, Shiloh is also a place that figures heavily in contemporary American culture as a metaphor for confusion and pain, a place so achingly beautiful that it is hard to understand how such horror could have happened.
The park is an excellent day trip from Memphis, and a must for visitors with a sense of history, as well as being a great place to relax away from the city for a few hours.
