Just to the North of the city is the small town of Homenkollen, which is a popular ski resort in winter, and an outdoor pursuits centre during the summer. The town hosts a ski festival in March when the best ski jumpers from around the world try out their luck on the big jump, while novices can get to grips with the smaller ones. At the museum in the town, you can try out a ski jump simulator which gives you a feel for what the experience is like, or look at a set of skis some 4000 years old.
