The hillside town of Tivoli is not far to the west of Rome, and has some excellent attractions including the ruins of the majestic Villa Adriana - summer palace of wall building Emperor Hadrian, as well as the Villa d'Este where you can see the famous fountains and gentle gardens.

Tivoli is especially popular during the summer, when the slightly cooler climate and gentle breezes make it a great getaway from the stifling heat of Rome.
