There are a wide variety of events throughout the year to appeal to tourists visiting Sofia, and some of the most interesting are the many cultural festivals that the city hosts.
Sofia Music Weeks runs from May to July, and consists of a series of classical and modern orchestral concerts most nights at the Bulgaria Music Hall and other venues. This is followed in August with the Folk Music Festival in Koprivshtitsa and finally the International Jazz Festival in November.
Cinema fans are also well catered for in Sofia, with two major film festivals, the Festival of European Co-Productions, which showcases the latest Bulgarian cinema in early June, and the 3 week long Kinomania Festival in November. Both take place at the NDK and at the Lumiere Cinema in Sofia.
For fans of Bulgarian Wine, the biggest day of the year is St Trifon's Day on 14th February, which celebrates the unveiling of the previous year's vintage, and also marks the start of the new year's wine growing season. Most of the events take place just outside the city.
