The biggest event of the year is predictably the Chinese New Year in January/February, which features many parades and people setting off millions of firecrackers at all times of the day and night.
Other major events are the Lantern festival in February / March, and the Tomb sweeping day in April when people visit the graves of their ancestors and pay their respects.
Dragon Boat festivals take place in many cities throughout June, with Hong Kong and Shanghai having some of the largest and best known.
