Throughout the year, Koh Samui hosts many festivals and events; perhaps the largest and most important are Chinese New Year in January/ February, and the Songkhran water Festival for Thai new year in April, when the population splash everyone in range with water. With a large number of tourists in the area, Christmas and New Year are also big events, and many of the hotels are decorated with trees and, rather oddly in the tropical climate, snowmen.
The new moon parties on the island are popular events that take place as the name suggests on a full moon. Should you want to time your visit to Koh Samui to coincide with one, you should check a calendar prior to departure.
