No matter what time of year you go to Mumbai, the chances are that there will be at least one major festival going on while you are there. These are on the whole colourful and exciting and a real highlight of any visit. Some of the largest and most important ones are Republic Day festival in January, the end of winter Hindu festival of Holi (mainly celebrated in the North), the biggest festival of the year takes place over 5 days in November. Divali is the festival of lights, and a huge event in a huge country and a time when you're likely to hear firecrackers let off by kids along Marine Road turn the area into something resembling a war zone - still its all good fun.
