Shanghai Festivals in Shanghai

The biggest day in the calendar in Shanghai is the Chinese New Year in February / March, when celebrations focus on the Longhua Temple, and parades of lion dancers fill the streets, and kids let off fireworks to celebrate.

Like Hong Kong and Singapore, Shanghai has a dragon boat festival in June, when boats race along the harbour in celebration of the life of Qu Yan, a poet from the 3rd century BC who drowned himself as protest about the corruption of government.
