The best way of getting around Abu Dhabi is by taxi. These are plentiful, and good value as petrol is so cheap. If you're thinking of going as far as Dubai then it makes sense to rent a car and drive yourself, as long distance trips can be expensive. Despite the temptation to cruise around in a cabriolet, this is not such a good idea; the heat of the sun will fry you as you drive. Rent an air conditioned saloon car, and pretend, its much more comfortable and better for your skin. The UAE has a zero tolerance approach to drink driving, and should you be stopped for speeding, or if you have even a small bump, you will be tested.
