Most major French cities are served by air with direct flights from London, with British Airways and Air France amongst others. This is well supplemented by an excellent domestic network that serves all the major destinations. France also has an excellent rail network operated by SNCF (Societe Nationale de Chemins de Fer), which includes the TGV (Train a Grande Vitesse) express train services that operate on the trunk lines.
Renting a car is a particularly good idea, especially if you are taking a holiday in a remote area, or somewhere where you will do a lot of sight seeing.
Within the cities, there are taxis, buses, and Paris is home to the Metro underground service.
Most major airports have a choice of taxis, buses or trains to get you into the city as well as offering offices for most major car hire chains.
