Although airlines operate between the mainland and almost all of the Greek Islands, unless you're in a real hurry to get around the country, one of the most pleasant experiences in Europe is the Island Hopping Greek Holiday, taking in a few days on each of several of the many beautiful islands that spread across the Aegean.
When on islands, you can easily hire a car, or a scooter to explore, or just catch one of the many buses that operate between sleepy villages.
The mainland has a good network of roads, and is an excellent place to explore at your own pace in a rental car.
