Getting around Sofia is a matter of taking the plunge and using one of the buses. Thankfully distances between attractions are fairly small, so you don't need to spend too much time wondering why the seats are so dirty, and why there are no shock absorbers. The buses are cheap, which is really their only selling point, timetables are as inpenetrable as a monk's smile, and services are as chaotic as a classroom full of monkeys.
Taxis are far more expensive, but at least they take you where you want to go, usually via several points of interest that the driver wants to share with you. For some reason, the only music you ever hear in taxis is Euro pop from the early 1990s, and after a while it begins to grate.
