Within the city itself, a car is of little use for travellers to Stuttgart as there is excellent public transport which is well supplemented by plenty of taxis to get you back to your hotel after a heavy night in a Beer Hall, but with so much nearby, visitors staying for longer than a couple of days should consider hiring a car in order to see the sights more easily. The roads in Germany are excellent, although with no speed limits imposed on many stretches of the famous Autobahn, you do often see people making attempts on the land speed record pass you with headlights glaring. If you plan to take full advantage of the unlimited sections of the road, make sure that the car you are using is in good condition, and capable of keeping up - for some of the drivers on the road, seeing an elderly Volkswagen Polo pootling along at 100KPH in the fast lane is an insult. Hire something fast!
