Switzerland, rather predictably has probably the most comprehensive public transport network in the world, and everything runs like cuckoo-clockwork (ha ha). There is a small internal network of flights, but with check in time, and baggage collection added into journey time, it is quicker to get a train from one city centre to another. Ferries and steamers operate on the larger lakes, and buses go where the trains don't. If you're planning to do your own thing in Switzerland, a hire car is a huge advantage, and there are offices in all of the major cities where you can pick one up. The roads are excellent, and well signposted in all of Switzerland's main languages.
