The nature of the island resorts in the Maldives means that you are often limited to just staying at your own hotel for all of your meals, and luckily this is a blessing in disguise, as the restaurants are typically of an excellent standard, offering a wide range of cuisines, and regularly changing their menus so that there is no chance of you getting bored.
If you are staying in a hotel closer to Male itself, then it is not so much of a problem to travel to the city in order to dine out there, although you will find that there is not a vast amount of choice in Male when it comes to restaurants, although Tamil food is popular - and very spicy.
Seafood is extremely popular on the islands for obvious reasons, and various kinds of fish turn up on most menus.
