Trastevere on the West bank of the River Tiber is home to many small restaurants and Trattoria, where you can get an excellent meal. Rather predictably perhaps, the majority of restaurants in the city specialise in Italian food, but this is no bad thing, as they say, when in Rome do as the Romans do.

For a more elegant meal on a special occasion, the restaurants on Via Veneto in the centre of the city are an excellent choice, although you need to book in advance at the weekend.
