People wanting to go shopping in Athens have plenty of choice about where to go and what to do. The area known as Kolonaki is the best place to go for designer goods, and there are plenty of small boutiques to browse through before you buy. The other main areas for shopping, where you find many of the discount shops, and large malls are around Syntagma, Omonia and Patission Street.
For a chance to try out your haggling skills and pick up some souvenirs, head for Monastiraki's Bazaar, which is like a huge market, and is open daily, with a special flea market on a Saturday.
The best buys in Athens for souvenirs are carpets, jewellery, folk art, and of course the many small (and incredibly tacky) models of the Acropolis, without which no home is complete.
