Shopping in New Orleans is mainly centred on The French Quarter and there are plenty of places to pick up unique souvenirs of the city in the craft shops and galleries much of what you find is based around the history of New Orleans, and of course the Mardi Gras, such as masks and costumes. Spooky looking voodoo items are widely available throughout the city - some of them real, and others just unusual gifts.
If your tastes do not run to religious artefacts, then more conventional American Malls can be found at the waterfront in the French Quarter at the Riverwalk Marketplace. To save some money in New Orleans, you can enjoy the tax-free shopping available at the Tanger Outlet Center and Louisiana Tax Free Shopping Center.
The French Market runs for several blocks along Decatur and North Peters Streets, and is open every day from 7am - 7pm.
The shops in the French Quarter of New Orleans are open for the longest: 10am - 10pm daily, except Sunday, when all shops close at approximately 5pm. Throughout the rest of New Orleans, shopping hours in the city run from 10am - 5pm.
