Edinburgh is a city with a great sporting history, and aside from having two sides in the Scottish Premier League (Hibernian, and Hearts of Midlothian), the city also hosts matches for the Scottish National teams in both rugby and football.
Other facilities in the city are of a high standard, and Edinburgh hosted the Commonwealth Games twice - in 1970, and again in 1986.
Close to the city centre there are several golf courses that welcome non members, and Europe's largest artificial ski slope is open throughout the year (unless it snows) at the Midlothian Ski Centre at Hillend.
