The gigantic Maracana stadium is the home of 4 major football teams, Flamenco, Botafogo, Fiuminese, and the mighty Vasco Da Gama, who all play in the Brazilian premiere league, and a visit to a match there is a real eye-opener, making the rowdiest crowd you ever see in the UK seem staid.
The games are punctuated with tribal drums, continuous showers of paper, and singing, as well as samba dancing strippers throughout the stands.
The Brazilian national team also play at the ground regularly, and makes the crowd utterly hysterical. If you can get your hands on a ticket, it is well worth going.
There are also several golf courses around the city, and of course, the beach volleyball, and impromptu games of football played on Copacabana beach to keep you fit.
