The number one sport in Shanghai is football, and the local team, Shenhua are one of the best teams in the country, playing at the Hongkou stadium close to the city centre. Predictably, Manchester United have a big following in Shanghai, and all of their matches are watched with attention bordering on awe in the many sports bars in the city. Everton too have a big following due their tie up with local clubs, and should you wear the shirt of either club, expect a friendly welcome.

The courses welcome non-members, and you can always book through the front desk of your hotel.
In late 2004, the city will host the inaugural Chinese Formula One Grand Prix. Expect accommodation to be at a premium when the drivers and teams arrive in the city.
