Dog fanciers from all over the world rate Greyfriars Kirk in the city as one of the most important tourist sites that they can visit, as this is where fans of four legged companions can see the bronze sculpture of Greyfriars Bobby, a Skye terrier who lived in the graveyard for 14 years, unable to leave the place where his beloved master John Gray was interred. Proof they say of the unique bond between man and his best friend. Less charitable observers might point out that the chubbly little dog was extremely well fed during his long life, and probably stayed for the food rather than out of loyalty to the dead man.
