Almost every Jew in Frankfurt was shipped out of the city and into the concentration camps by the Nazis during World War II, but the Jewish Ghetto remains in the city, having been preserved as the Museum Judengasse, which incorporates a holocaust memorial. The Judisches Museum that tells the full, uncensored story of the holocaust is in the old Rothschild family home on the other side of the city. The exhibitions are quite harrowing at both sites, and tell many stories about a time that the German nation is still coming to terms with.
