A Moscow institution for many years, the baths are a place to go for a cleansing steam and freezing dip in an ice cold pool, before getting into the dry sauna and being whipped with birch twigs. Then doing it all again, and again.

The baths have been around since the 19th century, and many Muscovites will turn up for their treatment every day with the same group of friends they have attended with for years.
