Oslo has a truly spectacular setting at the head of a fjord, and from the piers along the harbour front, it is possible to get a ferry trip along the coast that offers spectacular views and a chance to see whales in the sea during much of the year. No visitor to Oslo should miss the chance to take such a trip, unless its really cold, and blowing a gale while you're in the city, in which case, the rough water makes the sailing is a bit unpleasant.
