Just off the coast of the islands is one of the main routes taken by migrating whales, and throughout the year, you can take whale-watching trips into the Atlantic, when you may well see large whales and dolphins very close to the boat.
These trips are available from the harbour on any of the islands, although Tenerife has the most boats taking the trips, and consequently, the best prices.
The volcanic nature of the islands meant that there is plenty of almost lunar landscape to explore in the interiors, and no visitor to Tenerife should miss the chance to scale the majestic Mount Teide, and take in the views from the top, as well as staring down nervously into the steaming crater.
