Most visitors to Bali do tend to stick to the three main resort towns of Kuta, Nusa Dua, and Sanur where there are many nightclubs and bars as well as souvenir shops and restaurants. In the interior of the island though, is where many of the best sights are to be seen, in particular the stunning landscapes around the Gunung Batur volcano.
Several rivers on the island offer some good white water rafting during the wetter parts of the year, and it makes a change from lying around to do something active instead.
