The Hawaiian islands are blessed with a massive choice of natural and important historic attractions to see, but for many people the main reason for coming to Hawaii is to relax on the beautiful beaches and enjoy the waves of the Pacific Ocean, which have made the islands an absolute paradise for surfers.
All the islands have their origin in volcanic activity, and at one time or another, all have been active, however, these days, it is majestic Mauna Loa on Big Island (Hawaii) that offers the most spectacular sights for people wanting to see nature at her most explosive.
Oahu is the most populated island, home to some 900,000 people, and it is there that you will find the most developed resort of Waikiki, and also the most historic man made sights: USS Arizona still lies on her side in the shallow water of Pearl Harbour on the west of the island, where she was bombed by the Japanese to pre-empt America's entry into the second World War. Visited by millions of people who come to pay their tributes to the 2500 people who died that day, the USS Arizona, and the other ships wrecked in the bay are one of the most visited and eerie sights in the islands, and certainly one of the most thought provoking.
On Kauai, you can see the majestic Pacific Grand Canyon (Like the one in Arizona only smaller), and also the beautiful scenery that set the backdrop for movies such as Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, and also South Pacific. It's a beautiful island, small, and less touristy than many of the others, although the town of Lihue can still provide plenty of entertainment and hotels.
