Most travellers to Indonesia in the last few years have come to the impossibly beautiful island of Bali, where the high quality resort hotels are some of the best in Asia, and cater for all budgets. The main town is Kuta, and despite the bombs in October 2002, the nightlife there is still some of the best in the country.
From Java, you can see the remains of the volcano Krakatoa that exploded with such force in 1883, that you could hear the bang in London! Turning inland through, you find a well-developed island with excellent tourism facilities, and some fantastic temples and monuments from the era when the Hindu Empire that once covered the region ruled the island.
Sumatra is paradise of untouched rainforest and slow rivers where you can trek all day, and relax all night. The orang-utans that live in the jungle can be followed, and local guides will help you find the best spots to see them.
