The tiny islands of the Maldives are famous primarily for the beautiful white sandy beaches that surround them, and the wealth of spectacular diving sites that are accessible both directly from the beaches of the resort style hotels, and by boat in the more remote areas of the archipelago.
Most of the island resorts also offer excellent off shore water sports, and some of the more luxurious destinations also have unrivalled spa facilities.
The capital city of Malé is often visited as a day trip, or on the last day of a holiday. A small city, it is home to several interesting Mosques and a museum that has artefacts procured by the explorer Thor Heyerdahl when he visited the islands. The Singapore Bazaar in the city is famed for the variety of traditional handicrafts that can be bought there. Just off the shore, a submarine offers the chance to explore the reefs around the island without getting wet.
