As the centre of global communism, Moscow developed a unique and truly stunning skyline, where the imperial splendour of the Kremlin, with its many cathedrals and palaces stands close to the modern shape of Moscow University. Red Square was the point at which all roads met, and the expanse of space that once played host to parades and displays of military might, is now as likely to host rock concerts, but Lenin's Mausoleum remains the focus of the country.
Other attractions in the city are the many museums and galleries such as the Pushkin Museum of Fine arts, where you can see works by Claude Monet amongst the collection of others. The ticket for the Pushkin museum is also valid for entry into the museum of Private Collections next door.
In the middle of fantastic Gorky park amongst the roller coasters and fun fair rides, you can see one of the few surviving mementoes of the Russian space industry in the form of the Buran Space Shuttle, which never carried anyone into space, despite being larger, and more technologically advanced than the American version it was copied from. The Buran is open to the public, and you can enter it, and take photographs around it.
