Oslo has plenty to occupy travellers visiting the city for a short break, whether their interests lie in soaking up the city's rich maritime history, unique culture, or the famous nightlife.
Well worth spending some time exploring is the Akerhus palace, which has been in existence for more than 700 years, and amongst the magnificent rooms you can also see the Norwegian Resistance Museum dedicated to those imprisoned there by the Nazis during the Second World War.
Well worth visiting for a full day and reachable after a short ferry ride from the harbour is the peninsula Bygdoy, where you can see the Norwegian Folk Museum, the Viking Ship Museum, the Maritime Museum, and the Kon-Tiki Museum dedicated to the various explorations of Thor Heyerdahl.
