Although the main skiing resorts are in the north of the country in the Carpathian Mountains, the southern range, the Fagaras Mountain range also has some smaller less developed places to go, and are also home to some excellent trekking, and for the Dracula buff willing to climb the 1480 steps up to it, the place to see Poienari Castle, the home of Vlad "The Impaler" Tepes, the inspiration for Count Dracula.
On hot days, the locals head for the Black Sea Coast to sunbathe and relax in the sea, and some of the best resorts are around Constanta. Mamaia in particular has a lot of very large resort hotels and is the biggest resort in the country.
