Behind the closely controlled social order in Singapore, where the cleanliness of the city is one of the first things that people notice, there are many things to attract tourists.
The Singapore Zoological Gardens are world famous, and have an excellent collection of animals including polar bears and penguins, which seem out of place on the equator.
Neighbouring the zoo is an area of protected secondary jungle - home of the renowned Night Safari, where tourists are guided through the sights and sounds of the rain forest, and can see a wide variety of local animals in their natural habitat. The tours operate daily, and are a "must do" attraction for most tourists to Singapore.
Chinatown is the cultural heart of Singapore, and even though the old style areas are fast being developed and renewed, there are still enough street markets and temples to keep most visitors enthralled. The new Chinatown has some fantastic modern Chinese Restaurants, although these are more expensive, and arguably less authentic than their rivals, they are a great place to eat.
