Within striking distance of New York, are the attractions of Atlantic City where you can find casinos and theme parks, The Coney Island Beach and boardwalk, and if you have a couple of days to spare, a trip up north to visit Niagara falls is an option.
Upstate New York offers some pleasant countryside to explore, and the national parks are excellent.
