From arrival in Kansai International Airport, the fast paced life of Osaka is immediately obvious, with little time to think as you move from the baggage collection point to the front door of the terminal. Getting into the city is best done on the subway train, although signs are mainly in Japanese, and less confident travellers may prefer to use a taxi. Once in the city, taxis are available outside most hotels and restaurants and are on the whole pretty good value. It is possible to hire a car in Osaka if you are planning to explore the area surrounding the city, but driving within the urban area can be a hair-raising experience to say the least, with few drivers demonstrating patience at traffic lights, and confusing signs.
