Shoppers will inevitably find themselves drawn to the Stroget area of the city, where they will find a veritable cornucopia of choice in the large pedestrian area. Because of the 25% sales tax on every item, it is not necessarily the cheapest place to buy things in the world, but the choice is breathtaking, and in the larger shops such as Magasin Du Nord, you will find almost anything you might ever want.
There are a couple of small markets, where amongst souvenirs and food you find locally produced handicrafts, and can usually negotiate fiercely about the prices. Two of the biggest markets are located at Israel Plads and Gammel Strand on Saturdays.
