There's no shortage of places to go in San Francisco, and the city boasts more than 2000 bars and clubs to cater to every taste and interest.
With small traditional pubs to upmarket wine bars to enjoy a cocktail and a locally produced chardonnay making up the early evening entertainment, San Francisco also has hundreds of music bars where you can hear everything from jazz through to heavy metal. The Cloud 9 Motel is the most popular bar in the city for the well heeled, while the Backflip is a great place for a cocktail and a spot of people watching. For a variety of live music, head to Slims on 11th Street, where acts perform throughout the year.
The clubbing scene in the city has really taken off in the last few years, and now there are several really large venues that attract the biggest names in dance music, and have regular large events throughout the year. 1015 Folsom is the largest and loudest of all San Francisco's clubs.
The gay scene in the city is a huge draw for people across America, and the rest of the world, and the bars around Castro Street are the epicentre for HI NRG disco and dancing. Café Flore is the most popular and well-known bar, but there are plenty of others as well.
