Hospital treatment in Iceland is of a good standard, but is correspondingly expensive, and travellers should ensure that they have adequate medical insurance that covers them for any activities they plan to take part in during their stay. The main illnesses suffered by travellers to the island are hangovers, and mosquito bites during the summer, and hangovers and frostbite during the winter. Precautions to take are drinking plenty of water before bed, and wearing appropriate clothing to suit the season.
