The capital and main city of New Zealand, Wellington is beautifully located on the southernmost tip of the North Island, and is surrounded by some beautiful scenery, such as the Cook Strait (the waterway that separates the two main islands of the country) and the rolling hills inland, which are filled with vineyards and many stunning sights to see.
The centre of the city is compact and easy to walk around, making it a great place to explore on foot, and many of the best attractions that the city has to offer are its great museums and art galleries that cement the importance of culture to the people of the city.
When the sun goes down, Wellington's population head out to the many bars and night clubs around the city centre, and the relaxed and laid back atmosphere that you can experience in the city makes going out a real pleasure. The city also boasts great shopping, centred on the Cuba Street area, and amongst the best bargains to be had are hand knitted sweaters, and rather more fashionable sports wear.
There is a palpable sense of civic pride in Wellington, and the locals faith in the city has been well rewarded with the number of excellent buildings that adorn the skyline, and the well thought out feel of the city.
